Beaker was rescued at just two weeks old having been removed from his litter for fear of further attacks from his own siblings. He had to be hand weaned and unable to generate his own body heat, he spent a great deal of time in a special type of sleeping bag which hung from his carer’s shoulder. A toothbrush was used to imitate a mother’s cleaning tongue and a hot water bottle and soft toys employed at bedtime for warmth and comfort. It wasn’t long before Beaker was bounding around the house, practising his pouncing, learning to wash himself and use his litter tray. However some lessons only a mother can teach and Beaker has developed a few quirky traits. He prefers sitting on shoulders to laps, choosing to interact with the world at human eye level.
