On a summer’s day back in 1999, a young cat made a canny decision to while away his daytime hours on the Bowcott’s shed roof. From this excellent position, he could make his presence known and at the same time assess their suitability as care providers. The Bowcotts made numerous attempts to find his owners but with no success. The following year they moved house and by mutual agreement Charley the cat went with them. He had bonded well with Toby the dog and delighted in any supper involving chicken, ham or cheese. He was also partial to a dollop of yoghurt when the mood took him. When Toby passed away it hit Charley hard and he became noticeably more fussy, needing lots of extra cuddles. Two years later the Bowcotts adopted their rescue Jack Russell, Kodie. It was obvious Charley was the boss but the old cat and new dog became firm friends. And then Charley fell ill. Medication and excellent vet care gave them all another eighteen months together and Charley was spoilt rotten every single day. For seventeen years Charley brought them daily laughter and tears. He is terribly missed but the Bowcotts feel truly blessed to have had him in their lives. Rest in peace dear boy.
